  • Kelly Rutherford / Actress - What drew you to Véronique Gabai’s world, and how did your creative connection come to life?

    Veronique and I have known each other a long time, and when I started to think about creating a perfume, it was special to me to do it with Veronique, because of our friendship, and also because her perfumery meets my preference for natural ingredients, crafted with care. 

  • KR - How did you express your personality through the notes and nuances of Rose Première?

    I like a simple rose. And the rose is an important symbol of everlasting love and feminine energy. A rose is far from simple. We added a sense of playfulness and youth with the mandarin, the vanilla and the “rose praline”. I love it, and so do my daughter and my son! When I was testing the last seven iterations, there were two I was deciding between… they told me this final one was very much the best expression of my personality. 

  • KR - Fragrance often evokes deep emotions — what part of yourself or your story did you wish to share through this creation?

    Sharing positive energy with the world. And that gorgeous rose, the flower of love, expresses the feeling: "everything meaningful starts with love".

    Kelly and I have known each other for more than 15 years, and our friendship was the starting point of our collaboration. Kelly wanted to create a fragrance that reflects who she is, while respecting both her preferences and her values. She wanted a fragrance built around a simple and pure rose, designed for her sensitive skin, using beautiful natural raw materials. Of course, this is very much in line with the philosophy of my brand.

  • VG - How does Rose Première fit into your fragrance philosophy, often centered on light, nature, and Mediterranean sensuality?

    My brand is inspired by the Mediterranean and by the light of the Côte d’Azur, where I was born. Each fragrance is a beautiful escape toward that deep blue sea, but also a way of connecting with nature, since all our compositions contain a very high proportion of natural ingredients for a sense of well-being when worn. This high concentration of natural materials also creates a remarkable alchemy with the skin, because natural ingredients reveal their full power on the skin. I always say that, in my fragrances, the final ingredient is your skin. Not only do they bring light and well-being, but also great sensuality and a unique signature, because it depends on your skin.

  • VG - What emotion or memory would you like this fragrance to awaken in those who wear it?

    Joy, thanks to our citrus notes; love, through the rose; and pleasure, thanks to the sweet touch brought by vanilla and pink praline. A chic, modern, and original rose, like Kelly Rutherford.

  • Fabrice Pellegrin / Perfumer - How did you approach the rose, a classic symbol in perfumery, in order to make it modern, luminous, and distinctive at the same time?

    For Rose Première, I wanted to celebrate the rose in all its nobility, while infusing it with a luminous energy and a joyful radiance, in keeping with the spirit of these two warm-hearted women. The Rose de Mai from Grasse lies at the heart of the project — a flower that the three of us share as a true emotional bond. I worked with it in a vivid, fresh, and radiant way, surrounding it with green notes and the sparkle of mandarin, which make it immediately modern and vibrant. To make it distinctive, I sought to reveal its duality: its endearing delicacy, but also its depth. It then evolves into a more sensual trail, built around musks, an amber wood, and a sugared almond-praline accord, which gives it a delicious, unexpected, and irresistible character. It is a rose that vibrates, a living rose, in motion — reflecting this beautiful collaboration.

  • FP - Which raw materials were at the heart of your composition, and how did they help create the fragrance’s final balance?

    I built Rose Première around three pillars. The top notes bring the light: Italian mandarin gives the fragrance an immediate smile, with its radiance and spontaneous freshness. Rose Centifolia, as an infusion from the Grasse region, anchors the fragrance’s signature in Grasse. It brings great naturalness to the composition and echoes the rose water that Kelly Rutherford particularly loves. At the heart, the rose expresses itself in all its majesty. Rose Damascena, in essence form, unfolds a more textured and deeper facet, with accents of velvety petals. I paired it with Paradisone®, a molecule by dsm-firmenich, which brings an airy and radiant effect, opening up the flower and making it more contemporary. The base is built like a caress and extends the trail of this rose. White musks reveal a soft, modern, and clean sensuality. Finally, a delicious sugared almond-praline accord dresses the rose in a soft and feminine touch. This rosy gourmand signature creates contrast and emotion. This balance between light, florality, and sensuality gives Rose Première its unique signature: luminous by day, enveloping and addictive.

  • FP - What did you take away from this three-way collaboration, between Véronique Gabai’s vision and Kelly Rutherford’s sensitivity?

    What deeply struck me was the bond of genuine friendship and love that unites Véronique Gabai and Kelly Rutherford. Their connection truly guided the creation: their attachment to the Côte d’Azur and to Grasse, their vision of beauty, the art of living, the light... All of this nourished the fragrance and my inspiration. I am very honored by the trust they placed in me to create Rose Première. We shared an olfactory session in Grasse, at Villa Botanica: a very rich moment, where Kelly Rutherford’s sensitivity proved invaluable. She perceives the rose in a very emotional, almost intuitive way, and this guided my choices of ingredients and the facets to highlight. As for Véronique, she always brings an extremely precise vision of what she wishes to convey through her fragrances: a joyful, sunny, and confident femininity. She embodies a true artistic and emotional guiding thread. From this collaboration, I retain one clear truth: Rose Première was born from the three of us, in a dialogue where each person brought their own vibration. It is a fragrance that tells a heartfelt story.
