WINNER OF PRINT EDITORIAL - LE BOOK PARIS 2023

When Narcisse Magazine approached photographer Mitchell Feinberg about a perfume story the creative brief was quite simple: do whatever you like – no rules, no restrictions. And so began the Deep Dive..or Plongeé Profonde. Feinberg is known for his classical approach to photography and has a preference for conceptual realities in which the camera does the work. What may appear as highly composited images with manipulated elements are in fact meticulously composed tableaus of props & products, captured in-camera with minimal post-production. "The beauty of letting things exist as they are, with their imperfections is that it allows for a more intriguing image." The mesmerizing work of Mariko Kusumoto, whose intricate fabric & resin sculptures have long-captivated Feinberg, was the jumping off point for Plongeé Profonde. The color-correlation between the perfumes and sculptures take us on a journey where we leave behind the bright surface of the sea and plunge deeper and deeper into the abyss & the darkness of the deep. Shot on a OLED camera, the perfume & sculptures were layered beneath glass and shot from overhead.
